In 2003, Gemma completed a 4 year degree in Bachelor of Health Sciences Physiotherapy at Auckland University of Technology. Since then Gemma has furthered her studies and practice in Pilates and completed post-graduate courses in acupuncture.
Gemma treats a large variety of different musculoskeletal conditions but her special interest is in sports-related injuries, post-operative care and rehabilitation. She combines the use of Physiotherapy techniques, acupuncture, and specific exercises to relieve pain, restore mobility, improve posture and restore function.
Gemma became interested in physiotherapy when she discovered that the combination of her extreme hyper-mobility and the military training regime of her determinedly old-school Bulgarian coach was not the ideal preparation for international Rhythmic Gymnastics(!). In 1995 Gemma badly injured her back and tore her hamstring, which put her out of the sport for 9 months. But, with intensive physiotherapy and an intensive rehabilitation programme, she achieved her goal of representing New Zealand in the1998 Commonwealth games.
Gemma worked initially as a physiotherapist at New Zealand’s Millennium Institute of Sport and Health. In the past 3 years she has worked in various physiotherapy clinics, Pilates studios, and alternative health care clinics in London.
